Support for St. Baldrick’s
This year I am again supporting the cause of St. Baldrick’s and encourage you to also consider donating to this cause. This year, my support is for two volunteers to be “shaved”. And if you would like to support them, you just need to click the links below.
Bryan is participating at Richards HS in Oak Lawn, Illinois on March 17th
Helen shaved her head March 7th in St. Louis! Click on her name to see the before and after and to donate!
Remember, your donations to this charity go to help find a cure for childhood cancer!
Good Luck All!
Don’t Forget to Spring Forward at 2 A.M. March 8th!
March 8th starts Daylight Saving Time!At 2 A.M. clocks (in Chicago) need to be turned forward an hour, effectively moving an hour of daylight from the morning to the evening. I’ve been looking forward to DST this year! It seems like more gets done when we have longer hours of daylight! Wikipedia has some good stuff about DSTThis year, In the United States, Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 8, 2009 and will revert to Standard Time on Sunday, November 1. These changes will take place at 2:00 a.m. local time. Be sure to double check to see if where you live abides by DST.
Most cellphones and satellite clicks will update automatically. If it is after 2 am and you are reading this, then you really just need to chek that all of your clocks are the same. Some, like the ones on the microwave and the car need to be changed manually.
Thoughts on Charisma
I have a great many thoughts going through my head and mind today. I have started to pull some of them down out of my head and hope to start sharing them soon. One that keeps going through my mind today is the way people are so easily led and influenced by Charisma and Group Dynamics. I remember many years ago when I first took a class entitled “Group Dynamics and Individual Behavior” that much of what we are witnessing in this political climate was actually the curriculum of that class of long ago. Charisma will fool many. Charisma will cause many to not look at facts. They will make decisions and think that they are the right ones, but will be making dangerous decisions based soley upon Charisma. I have seen this type of “cult” behavior many times in my lifetime. People also are very gullible and let the popular press sway and make their decisions for them. I for one will not be making decisions based upon Charisma or anything the press or entertainers endorse. I am looking for facts. I am looking for reliable and unbiased facts. It is disheartening how many youth of today are falling victim to making decisions based upon sound bites, clips, satire and not taking the time to look at facts. Don’t listen to a biased commentator’s spin on a speech or debate. Look at the entire debate yourself without commentary and make up your own mind based on fact. The only way to control being drawn in by charisma is to be well versed in acurate facts! I could say more, but I need to get back to work and make some money to pay the bills so more on this topic will have to come later…
Peace and Love
[ German sociologist Max Weber. [1] He defined charismatic authority to be one of three forms of authority, the other two being traditional (feudal) authority and legal or rational authority. According to Weber, charisma is defined thus:
…a certain quality of an individual personality, by virtue of which s/he is “set apart” from ordinary people and treated as endowed with supernatural, superhuman, or at least specifically exceptional powers or qualities. These as such are not accessible to the ordinary person, but are regarded as divine in origin or as exemplary, and on the basis of them the individual concerned is treated as a leader.
Thirty days hath September…
“Thirty days hath September, April, June , and November;
- Thirty-one the others date, Excepting February, twenty-eight;
- But in leap year we assign… February, twenty-nine.”
These Thirty days of September 08 hath past quite quickly…
What more can I say except: Let’s see what October brings…
Post Script: News Flash: This Just IN from the Associated Press:
White Sox claim last MLB playoff berth!
“CHICAGO: The Chicago White Sox beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 to claim the American League Central division and the last berth in the Major League Baseball playoffs on Tuesday.
The White Sox joined the Cubs in the postseason, the first time since 1906 that both Chicago teams made it.
Next up for the White Sox, a first-round matchup with the surprising Tampa Bay Rays. Game 1 is on Thursday at Tampa Bay.
The White Sox got a huge boost on Tuesday from two of their oldest players: Jim Thome and Ken Griffey Jr., both longing for their first World Series championship.
Thome’s home run on a 2-2 pitch from rookie Nick Blackburn cleared two rows of shrubs in center at U.S. Cellular Field, traveling an estimated 461 feet (140 meters) to snap a scoreless tie in the seventh. It was the 541st homer for Thome, who raised his right fist as he rounded first base. He hadn’t been to the playoffs since 2001.
Griffey, who came to the White Sox in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds so he could have a chance at playing in the postseason, cut down Michael Cuddyer with a nice throw in the fifth. Griffey, who like Thome is 38, will be making his first postseason appearance since 1997 with Seattle.
John Danks, on three days’ rest for the first time, pitched eight innings of two-hit ball for Chicago, which had to beat the Detroit Tigers 8-2 on Monday in a makeup game to tie Minnesota for the division lead and force the tiebreaker game.
Danks (12-9) delivered in the biggest came of his brief career. He won a duel with Blackburn (11-11), who had retired 13 of 14 before Thome led off the seventh with his long homer.”
